Need info. on the Horse River. Has anyone canoed it in the last couple of years. Planing a trip to Lower Basswood Falls in September. Looking to make a circle back to Fall Lake by way of the Horse River.

I traveled down the Horse River in June 2011. We were expecting 4 portages and some beaver dams but encountered (as best I can recall) only 2 or 3 portages and no dams. It must have been high water. I've read other reports of 4-5 portages and multiple beaver dams. With a September (low-water season) trip in the works, you're wise to be looking into it.

Four of us went down the Frost River two years ago and had to cross way more portages and dams (12+ if my memory serves right). If that is all there is, it doesn't sounds bad. Thanks for the info. Edited by user Wednesday, April 8, 2015 2:56:39 PM(UTC)
