Secluded campsite on a quiet portion of the Basswood River. You can either paddle to it from the landing halfway down the portage or take a trail that heads north from that landing. The trail could be a little hard to see - I found it because I was looking for it. The campsite is mostly flat rock with a thin layer of soil. The trees are mostly jack pines and red pines. It is an open view of the river, and you can hear some rapids in the background. The river in front of the site was swift, but I wouldn't call it rapids. A couple of decent tent pads, though one is a little slanted.
Admin Note: The number and locations of campsites in and around the Basswood Falls portage were confusing based on the maps that I had and the existing campsite reviews. The reviews implied that there was a campsite missing on Paddle Planner, so I added it. However, when I explored the area, I found out that there was not a missing campsite; instead, all the maps had the campsites in the wrong locations. I have corrected the locations of the campsites, removed the "extra" campsite, and associated the reviews with the correct campsites. There are four campsites along the portage and two on the northern peninsula. One of the northern campsites can be reached from the portage; the other requires paddling.

Didn't stay here, but did visit while camping at the next site to the East. First impressions, this is a very difficult site to find if coming from land! From the water it's a very prominent site. To access from the portage, go to the canoe landing across from the small waterfall set marked on the map. There is a brushy trail that heads East from the landing that works back to the campsite. The campsite is actually really nice and and up from the water. There is a cool rock face East of camp. The fire grate and cooking area is quite nice. The biff is quite private and back into the woods (something the other portage sites lack.) All in all a good site!
