After doing the muddy portage from Jean into Burntside, we scouted this portage from the south end [Burntside] in the hopes that it might be an easier way back to Jean on our return. We spent about half an hour looking for it, and couldn't find it! Having read the only other report of this portage, I'm glad we didn't find it, because it sounds terrible!

This portage is a nice short walk to a long swamp with a channel. Part of the way we pulled the canoes. Part of the way we poled the canoes. And a short part of the way we were able to paddle. It was a high water year so we were lucky. I imagine in a low water year it would be drag and pull the whole way. Once we reached Burntside we stopped to wash off the mud and had a "Stand by Me" moment. Leeeeches!! All part of the adventure.
