Does anyone have any experience paddling this river? Specifically the White Cliffs area in Montana.

2020: Headed there to start on Aug. 17th to do Sections 2 (White Cliffs) and 3. Vern Fish and company just got back, said it was a great, but hot, experience. Maybe Aug. will be cooler. Locals say June is the best.

2021 Update:  Yes, did this 2020 trip.  Hot, easy canoeing. Lots of deer, eagles, some huge vulture like birds, saw mtn. goats down for a drink. Stunning scenery. Terrible fishing.  A good pandemic escape though.  There's a few motors in various places...but not enough to bother.  There's lots of cow and cow pies.  A few camps are exclosures...but others not..and you hear crunching in morning..get up and yell at the stupid beasts and they look at you...then slooowly mooove off.  Saw one big rattle snake near an abandoned homestead.  Some nice hiking available. The "rapids" are more wide shallow spots. No portaging...but some areas are muddy.  We made a nice camp on one island w/o the cows.   Going back do paddle the Marias River in early Jun, a a trib and smaller version of the Missouri.  Confess we'll be be on a guided trip so we see the buffalo jumps and whatever else they have to show.  There's just one outfit that does shuttles/rentals (Missouri River Outfitters), run by Nicole...but she's cool and will take good care your needs.    Dave  (If the border opens, I'm off to Wabakimi...if not I'll back in the BWCA.)
