Would like to explore some of Trout Lake, which is one of the few entry points we have not used.  After viewing Ben Strege's rarther harrowing experience with the winds during his exploration in 2020, am wondering if anyone does a tow service on Trout Lake and Lake Vermillion.  We are experienced paddlers, but age is creeping up on us, and we don't want to deal with winds across long reaches of open water.

Lonnie Johnson does tow service across Vermilion. 218-780-3610. You will probably need to call him before to set it up since I could not get a hold of him the day of.

I also think Voyageur North and Spirit of the Wilderness outfitters do tows across Lake Vermilion, too. You can give them a call. Others might do it as well, but I know these two do.

I have not heard of people towing across Trout, but for some extra money, they might do it for you.

Trout Lake is still one of my favorite entry points!

I talked to staff at Voyageur North, and they recommended that I talk to Lonnie Johnson directly, since they would contract with him for Trout Lake tows anyhow.  So I did, and have arranged Trout Lake tows for us via his service, as well as a tow on Lake Vermillion to the portage.  He needs some flexibility due to staffing constraints, because he has to have the truck portage staffed too.  So we worked it out and our trip should work well.
