I bought a Hawkeye Fishtrax off of Walmart, it worked just fine for me up at the Boundary Waters this last September. I put just a little bit of water on the bottom fo the canoe between my feet and put the transducer in that, didn't need much water for it to work, I should note I was using a kevlar canoe. Think it used AA batteries and I brought some spares along but never needed them, the battery life was great on it. I was sitting in the front of the canoe with it and had one of those bendable tripods and it screwed right into the depth finder and I could wrap the tripod legs around the handle on the front of the canoe so I could watch it, or the person in the back could wrap it around the cross bar in front of them, depending on who wants to watch it, it was really lightwieght and took up very little space! Good luck and happy paddling!!!!
