I saw this conversation on Reddit, which may help - https://www.reddit.com/r/BWCA/comments/13wupwc/bug_report/

I came back from Lake Three this past weekend. No ticks. However, I have found ticks to vary from location to location. Some places will have tons, others none. I always use permethrin on my socks and pants.

FYI: They are usually the worst in areas where fires have been (even 10-15 years ago) and, perhaps most importantly, there's long grass.

I was on the chain of lakes just NE of Bald Eagle Lake in the BWCA last month and had several - it had been hit by the Pagami Creek fire about a decade ago.

I strongly second the permethrin recommendation.
