Thanks: 30 times
Was thanked: 2 time(s) in 2 post(s)

I am a recently diagnosed Type 2 diabetic and I know nuts and seeds and meat really work with keeping my blood sugar from spiking.

I was hoping to prepare various meats and cheese and eggs to take on a multiple day trip in the BWCA this Summer.

Has anyone had luck with preserving bacon, beef, eggs and cheese ( ? dehydrator ? ) that I could make prior to trip.

Are those silver looking bags ( ? mylar ? ) with oxygen absorber the correct kind of packaging.

We have a BV500 (Bear Vault) to put food in, which isn't very feasible for the dehydrated meals you buy ( so much air in bags ).

Or, is it okay to remove the excess air from these store bought meals and reseal them somehow.

I PREFER TO PREPARE OUR OWN FOOD SO I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS IN THE FOOD.

Being cost aware is also important to me.

I've done alot of research, but having feedback from this community of paddlers is very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance !
