Just got back from a trip where we visited (9/26) that 5 star site. Walking to the latrine, Vickie thought it extremely odd that someone would 'spackle' the latrine with mud. Indeed, it was besmeared to the point of being unusable (sans a good cleaning). Upon further investigation we discovered the perpetrator. Our assessment at the time was that it was a red fox. But, looking at the picture more closely here at home....now I'm not sure. Pine marten???  Obviously we didn't investigate too thoroughly.

Needless to say it was quite the unnerving discovery. Especially since it took awhile to discover if it was still alive (it wasn't). Not sure what lead to the poor thing diving down there?Fox hole?

This is one photo I won't be showing my wife as I try to convince her to finally experience the wilderness with me next summer! Wow...
