I think we got lucky. The proximity to the marsh should have made this a very buggy site. It was so dry this year, however, we never had to apply repellent. There wasn't much tent space, it's good that we only had a small 2-person tent. My wife saw a wolf while she was on the latrine. They both took a couple seconds to look one another over before the wolf headed out through the trees. I was asleep, and by the time I got out of the tent, it was gone. :( The scenery at this camp site is beautiful. The water level was very low, so the landing wasn't bad. The swimming was nice. We were able to put a tarp near the fire grate to escape the worst of the rain storm that rolled through soon after we arrived. It cleared out the air for a day before the smoke returned. We'd return if it were just the two of us, but I'm not sure a larger group would fit, here, unless they had hammocks. As has been previously mentioned, the site is actually on the south side of the peninsula, closer to the marsh.

We loved this campsite. Off the beaten path. Pretty view of the back bay. Has its own little island out front. Easy landing and level grassy area for easy access to lake. We put our tent up and to the right of kitchen area. Protected with kind of a lake view through the trees.

Site is actually more around the corner to the SE of the location shown on the map. OK kitchen, but shaky landing and really no space for a large tent. Little open space and located next to a large swampy part of Birch Lake. I would only use again in an emergency.
