There are 2 landing spots on jagged rock shelf or gravel on either side of cedar tree. Both are exposed to west wind. If desired for wind issue, can land around point in narrow opening. The grass/gravel clearing is small and totally open to the sun and wind. The west facing fire grate derives some protection from the cedar tree and a little rock ridge. There is 3 log seating. Two tents could be pitched in the clearing next to the water, and another behind the kitchen. There is a small, lumpy tent pad off a fork off the latrine path. Additional tents could be pitched in the clearing if necessary. You can see the (optional) portage and site #1284 from the clearing. Blueberry bushes flourish on the lengthy latrine trail as it climbs a hill. Caution is needed if using it at night. This was my lowest rated site of the 12 on Birch Lake.

Birch was filling up fast this day and we were almost forced to stay at this site, although fortunately we found another one. It would do in a pinch but it certainly wouldn't be my preference. Suitable for only the smaller groups. There is one good tent site and beyond that, you better like rocks. Exposed to the weather so no shelter from rain or sun. And while I didn't look real close at the time I also didn't see any great candidates for bear bag tree either.

Compact and close to the water. Landing was OK - not difficult and not easy. There is a tent pad on a grassy area and another in a flat but rocky area.
