The widowmakers are still there, but they are providing most of the shade of the site, which is a steep climb up a hill, without even a nice view as a reward. There were plenty of raspberries. Some poor souls had mistaken the take-out for the portage, and had lugged their stuff up the hill before they realized it was only a campsite, and had to carry it right back down again. Giving this site 2 stars is too generous, just because of the entire lack of view, and having to lug all the stuff and repeated water trips up that hill.

Steep hike to the site from the lake, open area with a lot of wind blown trees.
Stayed a couple days and fished the falls on our way out of Basswood.
The toilet was guarded by a large buck in the brush, he didn't like being disturbed and stomped around a lot while we visited.
Fishing was good around the corner to the falls, other than that it was work getting gear up the hill.

Not your typical Boundary Waters campsite. It is set so far back from the lake that it feels like a hiking campsite. The landing is nice. Long, steep walk from the landing to the campsite. When I visited, there was a widowmaker over the fire grate.
