This campsite is in a nice location...but avoid it at all costs. It is an absolute ant hell-hole. We lasted three hours before we had to abandon all hope take all of our tents down and flee the island. I am not kidding. The island is infested with nasty, biting ants. They should film a survivor episode on this island. No one would stay to claim the million dollars. They would pay to leave! If they offered this island to people who are incarcerated, they would try it for an afternoon, and then they would freely choose to go back to prison. Don't try it. If it is late in the day, and this is the only campsite available on popular Gabro Lake...keep paddling. Sleep in your canoe. l would rather do a 200 rods portage, twice, without bug spray, than have to stay at this campsite. They should call in a drone strike or napalm this island. Campsite 1713 is the menace of the Northwoods.

Very nice island site. Huge shallow rock slab makes for a great landing. there is also a nice landing on the north west side of the fire pit. Fire pit is very open but offers fantastic views of the lake. a short walk back past the latrine reveals two different rock face lookouts over the lake for sunset viewing 15 to 25 feet above the lake.

Nice gravel/shallow rock landing. There are lots of sloping rocks around the site - great for sitting, relaxing, and enjoying the view. The main part of the site (kitchen and tent pads) sits in a cedar grove and is protected on all sites with a bit of a view towards the east.
