This site was awesome. It was by far the least buggy of any sites we stayed in BWCA, likely due to the breeze keeping the bugs away. Lots of good firewood because of the felled trees. Not a lot of shade but great beaches on both sides which was a luxury. Nice view at the top of the hill where the pit toilet is. Was shocked to see this rated as 2.5 stars. Decent spots for 2 tents. Stunning view of sunset from beach.

We made the mistake of not checking this site out before setting up at the site to the west. The beach at this site is excellent. We saw bear tracks in the sand, and either wolf or dog tracks. The main site area doesn't have any shade in the middle of the day (due to an apparent blow down some years ago, based on the fallen trees), but there is a nice open hill with plenty of shade trees. The trail to the latrine is up that hill, but the reward is one of the best views from a latrine trail in the BWCA. The site is on a very narrow portion of Mile Island, so has access from both sides, and probably has a nice breeze from almost any direction. We didn't actually stay here, so there may be some deficiencies that weren't apparent from first glance. We came over here to swim and bathe, since it was much nicer than the site to the west.

This site is located on a narrow strip of land with many fell trees. The camp grate is at the foot of a hill without any shade. Due to the steepness of the hill, very small area of flat surface may be suitable for tents. This site is very breezy (could be gusty at times), which keeps bugs away. The view on the hill is very pretty because you are surrounded by waters on both sides. The sandy beach at one side is nice.
