We arrived at this site rather late in the day after having been completely soaked by a rain storm at the Lower Basswood Falls portage. So, we were quite happy to have a large rock to lay things out to dry. We also planned to leave early enough the following morning to not worry about how the sun was going to beat down on the entire campsite ALL DAY LONG. There was decent swimming on the east side, near the easier landing. It took me a long time to find a good tree to hang the food pack. It was a much longer walk than we usually take for that chore. We were shocked to hear a large group (of scouts?) passing the site heading south at 9 p.m. I hope they found a site before dark. On the one hand, this site is on the main route down Crooked Lake. On the other hand, very few folks go this far in. After this camp site, we didn't see a single other human being for 48 hours. This would not be a good camp site in a storm. There were blueberries, though.

This site had a fire grate and evidence of use when I visited. Approach with caution in low water, as there is a rocky shelf south of the site. Not the greatest landing and exposed to the wind. Bedrock outcroppings dominate the site. Little tree cover. Best part about this site is close to good fishing.
