I travelled from Rose to here just to check it out. I actually really liked it. Yes, it's off the portage, but I don't think the portage gets used too much and the site is far enough away from the portage that people wouldn't be wandering through your camp. This would be a great basecamp for exploring South Lake or even further West and Rose Lake. I may stay here next time (stayed on Rose this time). I have Tmobile and I somehow had service - so keep that in mind (good versus bad). Would get 5 stars if it were not on the portage, but I still really liked it.

Nice site with big trees and a decent view. The site is elevated high above the lake and can be accessed from the water or from the portage.

Tough shallow water landing and canoe storage may be an issue for larger groups. Steep climb up to the site. Top notch log seating and fire grate area with a nice mix of tree cover and views of the lake and there are 2 premium tent pads. There is a spur trail off the portage that runs into camp that might entice curious visitors to unwittingly wander through.
