Downed trees mentioned in previous post have been dealt with and are absolutely not a problem. This is a nice campsite. Yes, it's a sand beach and as beaches go in the BWCA it's 5 stars. This isn't Hawaii... we all know not to expect miles of soft sand extending hundreds of yards into the water.
That written, we found the site had been recently inhabited by BWCA trolls that left behind a ton of wrappers and fishing detritus. We picked up dozens and dozens of bits of trash. Leave no trace isn't enough, leave it better than you found it.

I read great reviews for this site and so I was surprised to find the site was less than desirable. Lots of large trees down in the campsite that have been there for a while. Large standing trees in the site made me nervous enough to not stay. We were also expecting bad weather... if not we would have considered it. We stayed for lunch on the very small sand beach. It does though have a sandy landing and it is the only campsite on the lake - which make it desirable.

After being in burned areas of Alpine and Red Rock lakes, and several days of windy and rainy May weather, we pulled into this campsite on a beauty day and loved the big pines. Dried out all our gear! Found a cool geocache on top of the bluff near the campsite, too. It was a memorable part of the trip.

Excellent site!! Spent 3 days here and never saw another canoe. Plenty of space could easily get 4 tents up. Very large downed tree in the middle of the site that cuts the site in half. Nice sandy landing, fishing was good on opposite side of the lake. The kitchen was in the middle of the site with an excellent view of the lake. The only downfall of the site were several extremely large trees that were dead and there was a pileated woodpecker that would pound away at all times of the day.

This is the nicest campsite that I've seen in this area. It is very secluded with lots of privacy and shade. The floor is smooth and mostly pine needles. It has an excellent, sandy beach shore for launching, loading, and unloading canoes. The latrine is not far away at all. Also, the last several years, the fishing in Lake Zephyr has been great. We have also seen moose back here multiple years.
