Everything about this site seemed difficult. The landing was difficult. You can land the canoe either by some rocks or the sloping rock in front of the site. Both of the options have their problems. For most of our stay, we "parked" the canoe on a shallow rock shelf that seemed designed for a canoe. However, it was still slippery and steep to get up to the site, and we slipped a few times into the water. Even though I marked three good tent pads, there are no great tent pads. There are three OK tent pads, though they all have at least one problem - slanted, rocky, rooty, etc. I could not find a good hanging tree. The kitchen is up high with a nice view of the lake. The site is dominated mostly by maples and oaks, which is a change from the pines that I usually see in the BWCA. It will be busy since it is close to the Devil's Cascade portage.

Just walked up to investigate. Nothing good about this site, went looking for something else with the intent of portaging back into Upper Pauness if needed.

Ok site. Nice rock face with good view of Lower Pauness. Crap tent sites - both were pretty slanted and had lots of tree roots. Ok for a one night site, but wouldn't stay longer than that.

Not the best site, fishing wasn't the greatest, bugs were not an issue until you had to use the latrine.

Existing tent pads are ok but not ideal, there isn't a totally flat one. It is ok for hammock campers but is pretty exposed and the entry/canoe storage area leaves a great deal to be desired. We based here simply because there were so many people in the area for opening weekend and the weather sucked and we didn't want to pack back up after the first night.
