Several tent pads and hammock hangs are nestled beneath towering white pines, young oak and maples. Solid fireplace with panoramic vista of lake. River appeared impassable upstream. Shared camp with three swans, a sparrow, red squirrel and a grouse.

This is the most heavily used site on Lower Pauness, and for good reason. It sits on a nice rock ledge on a scenic peninsula with plenty of room for a group. It sits across from the cascade and is perched at the narrows to head towards Shell meaning ALL traffic is passing right by this site. That said, it is a nice one.

The latrine is FULL. Think poo-sandcastle... that is 6 inches from the seat. Also, the "kitchen" has rotten logs that can't really be used for seats.
If the poocastle and logs were replaced, this site would be a 4... but as is, it should be used as a lunch stop.

Well used site, but pretty clear of debris. Excellent pine trees further back in the site with some good tent pads and hammock areas. Excellent bear bag hanging spot.
Many painted turtles visited by the canoe landing on the right side, humming birds, eagles, and a doe with a fawn were visible from the site.

We used this campsite on the last night of our trip. Nice elevated rock ledge and good tent spots. Close paddle to devils cascade. The spot seemed to be very used. Was kind of hard finding a lot of good firewood. Overall, it was fine for one night.

Incredible view from up on a rocky shelf. Incredible white pines are the best part about this site. The cook area has no protection and has no trees to set up a tarp, but otherwise this is an awesome site. Close to the devils cascade for a quick trip if there is bad weather. Landing is a little tricky with an abrupt rock sticking out as the only way to get on shore.

Great site for hammock hanging. There is a great flat and shady location removed from the fire pit, we termed it the living room, that could fit numerous hammocks or tents. Easy access to pump or gather water. The site is very, very heavily used. Finding firewood was difficult, we had to resort to scavenging along the eastern shoreline.

This site is up about 6' above lake level on a very flat rock shelf. Wide open 270 degree view to the north, west and south. Nice tent pads underneath big pine trees towards the back of the site. This site is on a high-traffic route for paddlers going to/from Shell. Not very far from Devils Cascade.

The site sits perched up on a flat rock 6 feet above the water. One of the best stargazing sites around, with a perfectly flat rock shelf with no tree cover. There a couple good tent pads with some shade and a big white pine. The site sees a lot of use.
