A small bear ripped open a food bag at 7pm on a bright, sunny evening while 4 of us were in camp. He growled at me and resisted leaving as I yelled and threw rocks. We decided to pack up and leave. 10 minutes later it came back, but left right away. We were gone shortly after. He ended up getting some seasoned almonds and two boxes of breakfast bars. There were already sites closed on Alpine because of bear activity. The dry spring and summer has limited their natural food, so they are very hungry and getting desperate.
The site is average in just about every way, except below average for trees. There is one shade tree, which is a medium sized cedar with a bullet hole and shotgun blast in it from some assholes a few years back. The good tent pad by the cedar tree is good for 4 people. We found another slightly sloped 2-person pad tucked in the woods on the north edge of camp. For swimming the landing/beach area is very slippery.
On the south tip there is a high enough rock and deep enough spot to dive into the lake. We fished the lake for a few hours and caught only one small smallmouth. The best feature by far is that it is the only site on the lake.

We looked at this site, which was hit hard by the Cavity Lake fire, but ultimately decided to move on. The tent pads weren't great, but this site would have ranked higher before the fire. There are a few trees left and the new growth is coming along; but, like many of the other sites in this region, it lacks the northwoods charm we were looking for.
