I debated between one and two stars for this site. It is probably a one-star, but after a 12-hour day, anything looked good to me. Virgin was completely burned, but this is a semi-scenic spot among the desolation. The landing is difficult on a steep sloping rock. There are no food hanging options. The kitchen has a nice view with a couple of good sitting rocks. I put that there is one good tent pad, but that might be a stretch. It looks like you can't put stakes in. There is no good spot for a hammock. I ended up moving on to West Fern. The campsites on Virgin and West Fern are similar. Virgin's site is better for tents. West Fern's is better for hammocks.

Stopped here for lunch on a day trip. Save for the most luxurious latrine I have come across in the BWCA, there is absolutely nothing good to say about this site. As can be seen by the condition of the fire grate, the site has obviously not been used in quite some time. Twigs and brush have grown up so there is virtually no good spot for a tent. There is no landing for the canoe(s). Just tied mine up at the lake. If it were windy at all, the canoe would eventually sustain heavy damage. This site is for only the VERY desperate.
