Overall, pretty decent island site on Birch Lake that’s good enough for staging out on the final night…as long as you aren’t afraid of resorting to chemical warfare against the tiny winged bloodsuckers from Satan’s armpit. The put-out is shallow, meaning you don’t have to swim when you slip getting in or out of your canoe. The landing also has enough room for a couple canoes broadside. There’s an ok fire-pit for cooking up all your leftover vittles that’ll inevitably result in you instantly gaining back that 5 pounds you just lost over the last couple of weeks. Hey, we’ve all done it. And, after consuming all your remaining rations, rest assured there’s plenty of pooping logs out back to provide that relief you worked so hard to earn. There’s even a couple prime logs with well-packed trails leading to them. The earth adjacent to those logs is quite disturbed, so dig at your own risk. There’s a couple tent pads level and flat enough for 3 tents in the 1 or 2-man size. Oh, and I guess the view is decent, too. That is all. —Ryan
