Fled to the canoe as fast as possible, chased by clouds of biting insects. Before those bloodsuckers wake up or after they're frosted to sleep, this is likely a pretty nice site with shade and shelter from the elements. But with the wet, warm early season of '23 we wanted an open, dry windswept site - and this was not it...

This site is not that great, but it was close to where the fish were biting consistently and this is a huge lake to be paddling in just to get to and from your honey hole. Decent landing, sandy. was able to put our single tent in a copse of trees as a wind break in the event winds came up. Another decent tent pad near the water closer to the landing as you enter camp, maybe next time.
Lots of blue walleye here on Kawnipi, our first but we caught maybe 30 of them! No lakers.

Very nice site, a bit up off the water. Sandy landing and bathing area. Good kitchen, fire pit and easy tarpage. Nice front porches and plenty of open space. Good fishing nearby.

Site is on the southern end of the island. A good, sandy landing where the southern promontory meets the mid-south shore. The site has a mixture of open and shaded areas with mostly red pines. Elevated logs with backrests formed in a U around a good U-shaped fireplace. Nice totem-like human face and a fish figure carved into one of the logs. Good fishing in channel between Rose Island and western shore.
