I did not get out of the canoe to look at the actual site. My rating is based on the water and landing around the site, which was shallow, stagnant, and very buggy when we pulled up to the site around 4pm. The landing is sandy, but we chose to keep on looking for a different site based on the condition of the waterfront.

Cool elevated site with a beautiful view of Loon. The beach landing is a nice bonus. We unfortunately stayed here about a week after a major wind storm which toppled trees throughout the BWCA. In fact, on this very site, a couple people had to be airlifted off the lake after the storm. If you take a look at the photos, there is a photo of a grey and orange tent on a nice pad. That is the spot where the tree fell and landed on a tent. I stayed on that same spot, except there was a tree laying on the back of the pad with tent and sleeping bag material pinned under it that had been cut away from the rescue the previous week. Wish I had taken a pic to post. Anyway: Great site!

This gorgeous site overlooks South East Loon Lake. Sandy beach landing; elevated site (upper camp area photos). Multiple-pads available for tents. Easily would handle 4, 2-man tents. Canadian motorboat traffic is present. Plenty of options for hanging a bear bag.

I've stayed at this campsite twice. Both times we had a motorized boat, and the little bay that it's in is perfect for an easy landing. The site itself is a decent walk up hill from the shore, which can get really annoying especially when carrying gear. The elevation does provide some beautiful views of Loon Lake, but that's about the only benefit. Both years we stayed here, the bugs were pretty bad due to the openness around the fire. All 6 of us were constantly swatting gnats and mosquitoes to the point where we were wearing head nets at all times. It does get plenty of sunlight, which can be good or bad depending on the day. There is one really nice tent pad that is secluded and covered. I guess the biggest thing for me was the climb up and down just to get some water, clean dishes, etc. If that is not an issue for you, this is a fairly nice campsite.

It was great to put in here at a wide sandy beach. Should be good for swimming, but I don't know how deep it was off the beach. It is a bit of a climb to a large, flat grassy area were you could pitch 6-8 free standing tents. There was a very nice and protected tent pad just down from the kitchen area. Some locations for hammocks. There were several spots to get down to the water for fishing. Kitchen area was adequate but would be exposed to the wind. I really enjoyed this site, especially seeing the fresh moose tracks on the beach the next morning. As noted, great views of the lake.

A little buggy but has a nice sand beach and a hill going up to the flat ground for tents. The campfire is up even further and has a gorgeous view of Loon Lake. Good fishing is nearby.
