I camped on this site for the sole purpose of clearing out the juniper that has long overgrown the very old fireplace/wood cache. I suspect it was used more during the fly-in fishing days of the 1940s. We set up the tent on exposed bedrock--pretty much the only option, as farther inland the flat tent options were on brushy, water-logged mosses. A HUGE amount of work had to have gone into building the stone bench and fireplace/wood cache back in the day.

We found an elaborate old fire pit--huge stones and covered wood storage--hidden from the lake by big junipers. Facing the fire pit is an equally elaborate stone bench complete with curved stone backrest. Some of the stones in the bench must weigh more than 500 pounds. The pit has been overgrown by junipers and goldenrod, and the bench is covered with lichens--both suggesting the site hasn't been used in many, many years. In the woods behind the bench and pit we found several flat areas that appear to once have accommodated tents, but the areas are now several inches deep in reindeer moss.
