Well, the high school boys I was guiding need to be pushed, so I diverted them to something special. In the past, the spur trail of the border route heading out the back of this site was the portage from Clearwater to Rove. It doesn't officially serve that roll anymore, but I led our group through it. It sure isn't cleared with an 18ft canoe's turning radius in mind! There are tight, brushy stretches and down trees to climb over. It's steep and challenging. We spent a few minutes in this campsite beforehand to have a snack. It is a nice site with good shade and access to one of the more famous BWCA overlooks along the border route.

I didn't stay here but instead took the BRT from Daniels to here. I'm so glad I found it! I needed a break from the heat and was able to swim right from the site. The site itself is huge with lots of good places to put tents. Besides the occasional BRT hiker getting a bit lost (like myself) this would be a great site for a large group. I would have felt bad using it as a solo explorer.
