Pretty epic site! A long and multi-tiered rocky point that juts out to the west. The cooking area is sunny, and sheltered from the lake. Many excellent hammock sites. A couple of good tent pads back among many cedar trees. The landing is shallow and sandy, a pretty little cove. Long and rocky trail to the latrine, which is in excellent shape and about 30 feet above the lake. It's one of the new ones too! Bear tree options are limited but it's not hard to find one. Great swimming in this deep and clear lake. There's a 2-foot tall cliff on the NW side of the point which you can jump off- though beware, this is the only spot. Most of the other cliffs end in shallow water. Panoramic views of the lake, we saw many groups enter from the Wanihingan lake portage.

Superior campsite. At least three tent pads and many sturdy trees for hanging hammocks tucked away under a canopy. Large campfire area with easy access to water adjacent to massive open rock face with tremendous views and gradual stepped decline to water's edge. Ample space for a large group to spread out. Sandy, delightfully easy portage tucked away on the northwest side of camp.

Site seems huge because of the massive rocks in front of the site on the peninsula. The kitchen is tucked behind the rocks, and the rocks actually protect from most of the wind. Very easy sand/gravel landing tucked behind the peninsula, though I saw a group pulling up their canoes right on the rocks on the peninsula. The tent pads are all in one spot by the landing.

Decent site with a nice rock outcrop. The kitchen needs a lot of work it was sub par. Someone had burned all of the logs to sit on and the fire grate rocks were gone.

one of many great sites on this lake. I would say that the only not perfect thing is the fire pit is not really in a spot to look at the lake. But on the other side of that, it is out of the wind on the bad days. The fire pit area though is a nice flat open spot.
It has a nice latrine area up on the hill with a lid...kind of like staying in a motel.
Decent for a couple hammocks

This site has a great landing on the northwest corner. The landing is sandy and shallow. Right above the landing are the best tent pads. The front of the camp is large rock. A great place to view the lake and watch the sunset in the evening. You also can do shore fishing off of the rock front of this campsite.

Solid "A" site. Fantastic swimming. 5 different rock levels overlooking the water. Large area behind the kitchen for tents/hammocks. One of the best canoe landings I've ever seen. It was almost too big for 2 humans and a dog.

Excellent expansive views off the large rocky point is what makes this site so great. There's a really nice sandy landing to the north in the bay. There's good swimming all around the site. The backside of camp is large but doesn't sport many flat areas for tents.

This is a really nice site. At first it seems huge and sprawling, but since almost all that sprawling area is exposed rock, the usable portion of the site ends up being a midsized site. For two people with one backpacking tent it still ended up being huge, but the two good tent pads would both be tight for a big basecamp-style tent.
It's really a lovely site though, with plenty of sunny areas, plenty of shaded areas, and lots of trees for those who want to hammock. Beautiful landing / beach area back around the back of the site.
The latrail is a rocky, steep climb up a hill. This is *not* a site for people with any mobility issues.

Best site I've visited in the BWCA. Plenty of space, great views from the point, and lot's of options for gathering firewood. Two good tent pads that are relatively sheltered and a couple good trees for hammocks, including one spot that over looks the lake.
Pro tip: There is a cliff on the south side of Winchell with an easy trail that can be hard to find. Spectacular views from that cliff so definitely worth the paddle over, the trail opening is just west of the rock face, with a area to land your boat, it's an obvious trail so you should know when you're in the right place.

Great Site with views. It has a nice swimming bay and cooking area. The latrine is a hike up hill... would not want to do that in the dark. Lots of trees for hammocks.
