Very flat site, a huge boulder to sit on by the firepit. Latrine trail was super short, and the landing was good but the water was only 4' deep 75 feet from shore. We caught many crayfish on the rocks at night.

Nice open spot with access from the North. There's a large rock by the firepit. For rain cover we strung a large tarp between trees by the firepit.

This is a very level campsite facing north on a point straight across Alton Lake from the Sawbill Portage. There is another campsite on the south side of this point which you might want to choose, depending on whether the breeze is coming from the south or north. I believe there is a trail between the two sites, but I didn't follow it all the way because the south site was occupied.
It was a convenient site for all camping activity. The only problem we had was finding soil where tent stakes could be placed. Most pads had rock or root just below the surface.
We rode out a terrific thunderstorm at this site that killed two people elsewhere in the BWCA.
There are NOT 9 tent pads as the other rating mentions! (Well, unless the tent is 3' by 5' in size!)

Great tree coverage. Very spacious. Lots of room around the fire. Decent front door to the campsite.
