This campsite is probably the best on Alton. It has a nice sized beach which makes getting in and out of your canoes very easy. The beach also provides an amazing view of the south half of the lake. Fire pit is close to the beach/opening such that you have a great view while by the fire.
Tons of space, we had 3 tents, a giant rainfly, and a screened in tent comfortably at this site. To anyone considering this site vs 845 on the northern end of the peninsula, this one is bigger and has a much better view/fire pit location.
My only negative comment is that while there were many locations to fish from the shore on the West, East, and South, it is very very rocky/shallow (the beach is sand but turns into rocks 10 ft out). So we had a ton of snags and caught nothing off the shore itself. We had luck in the nearby coves on some overcast days. All rock bass/small mouth bass in the nearby coves.

The BEST landing in all of the BWCA I have seen so far. Nice sand beach, made for easy in and out. The kitchen area was open enough to provide a nice breeze to keep the bugs away. Access to the small bay on the other side was great for additional fishing. Great hammock trees to over look over the lake, the bald eagles and loons. Loved this site.

This is the best site on Alton, IMO. Great view over the lake to the south, with a sand beach and gradual approach. It must be the easiest canoe landing I've seen.

nice sand beach landing, sheltered fire pit with some view on the lake. Good tent pads but a sketchy walk to the box. Nice "back porch on the western shore of the point for sunning and getting out of the wind. Not much shore fishing, very shallow for a ways out.
Paths connect the site to the north.
