A solid backcountry site with a nice kitchen and some open, if uneven, rock at the landing. We visited a couple days after some very heavy rain and the landing was easier than in the photos here. It was a buggy visit overall and much of the site is well sheltered from wind so the landing was the only place to get relief without a smoky fire. The biff is a bit of a walk and approaching capacity but we've had much worse...there will be mosquitoes so prepare to protect yourself.
Definitely some good hammock hangs near the kitchen and a few tents can be fit in there as well. There's another secluded tent pad up the biff trail and one could possibly set up on the flat rock shelf on the far west of the island, though we found no clear trail there in 2024.
Center of site could get crowded but with small groups there's a lot of space. Enjoy the quiet if you ever get here.
Fishing is a no go here, maybe Lakers on the east side of Wine but don't waste your time near or from the site.
4/5, for such a remote area the only real downside is that the wind cannot help with bugs in the main area or at the satellite tent pad.

Outstanding site. Nice landing and marvelous rock near the water for relaxing and fishing, though I didn’t catch anything. Many hammock options, including a grove of gigantic white pines. Multi-tiered fire grate and kitchen area that could seat a crowd comfortably, albeit a bit back from the water. Wine is a stunning, secluded lake, and I absolutely loved my stay here.

Landing was rocky and a bit of a lift, but that may improve when water levels are higher; I assume they're quite low given the draught we're in. Once on, there is a nice open area around the landing, then the fire grate is set into the trees a bit. It was a fine site and a mix of open and sheltered areas. Frankly, I think it might be a bit overrated, but it was far from bad.

Great island site. Nice rock landing to watch the sunset. Good bear and tarp hang trees. Very remote with little canoe traffic.

This site is maybe a little better than the campsite by the portage to Frederick. It is a nice site for a remote lake like Wine. The landing was a little tricky. It is almost a nice rock shelf, but not quite. There is a sloping rock on the west side with a trail to the site that might serve as a better take-out point. The kitchen and tent pads are back in the trees. There are some big white pines around the kitchen. You can sit on the rocks by the lake to get some sun and get away from the bugs.

Nice site. We stopped in to check it out on a day trip and picked some blueberries on the north shore of the island. The sitting logs near the fire grate are especially nice. Two large trees where blocking the latrine trail.

This site is actually on the west side of the island. Easily the best site on the lake. Lots of huge wite pines provide ample shade and cover. Nice canoe landing. A bench by the firegrate that is flat and has a back rest. Several flat rocks surround the firegrate providing a convenient table. One of the very best sites I've ever stayed at.
