Crappy landing, but at least there's enough access for multiple canoes to land at a time. However, it isn't a great site for a big group as there isn't a whole lot of tent pad options, and surprisingly limited hammock hangs as well, but there are some. Short climb from shore to fire grate area, and oh boy is that fire grate small and kind of dumb. Neat rock formation in the middle of camp, I suppose.
Having stayed her on our way out from a Wine Lake area trip, it was frustrating how much the atmosphere changed as soon as we entered Alton Lake where the only commitment is a 30-rod garden walk. Garbage all over camp, careless damage to numerous trees from knives and axes, and despite how far away the next nearest campsite is to this one, within an hour of setting up, we had a tandem with some loud-talking fishermen paddle-up near our site and fish noisily for like 45 minutes. Bed time brought with it the sounds of noisy campers and screaming children from all across the lake.

The landing is terrible (like most on Alton). The kitchen has very little view of the lake. The site is up a hill in the woods. It offers some privacy.

We got skunked while trying to find a site on Kelso late in the afternoon and ended up staying here. For our 6-person group, it was way too small, but we could manage for 1 night. There was little-to-no canoe landing. It is a high, secluded site.
