At a point 19.2 km west of Sand Lake Gate (where you buy your permit), turn left and proceed 4.8 km to the access point and Achray Campground on the southeast tip of Grand Lake. Please note: After Canadian Thanksgiving (second Monday in October), the road to Achray is gated one kilometre from the Achray Campground/Grand Lake - Achray Access Point but visitors may still access the trails and the backcountry on foot from the locked gate. Permits are required for all Park use, year-round, and are available at the self-serve fee station at the Sand Lake Gate.
