The mouth of Basswood Lakes is a tumbling cascade of falls flowing around a series of islands on its way to Crooked Lake. Upper Basswood Falls, in particular, is one of the most dangerous rapid sets in the BWCAW due to its power, its turns, and its relatively obscured course when paddling up to the portage. There have been far too many accidents for this waterfall to demand anything but the utmost respect.
