I went through there during my first BWCA trip ever, in 2012. After several nights coming up through LIS, Loon, North Lakes, LLC, etc... The attendant of the rail system was giving me some history of the site. Pretty cool stuff! He said there were cold sodas and beer in the igloo cooler. Oh man, I wanted the beer but told him I'd take a soda instead, so as not to drink ALL his beer LOL. It was the best tasting Mountain Dew I ever had. The canoe portage was an easy walk through the grass, if I remember.

Easy portage from Loon Lake to Lac La Croix Lake. Interesting to see the rail system in action.

Pretty much flat and easy with small but functional canoe landing on the Loon side. Huge landing on the LLC side with an awesome view. Cool to see the rail system.

Another neat rail portage for the motorboats. We were met by a lady gardening and a shy dog. As canoeists, we could just portage across, but we did see a motorboat go over behind us. The portage is covered in oak trees which gets my mind wandering back to stories of the voyageurs planting oak trees to mark portages. I wonder if they are descendants? Anyways, neat little spot.

Fun to watch the motor boats get hauled over the hill on the rail cart. Indian paintings on a cliff side a half mile north.
