Wow! Short, and Steep! The Fente side is one of the steepest portages I've seen in the BWCA. Be super careful with your footing and think ahead about how you will turn with the canoe on your shoulders. We decided to hand the gear downhill passing/sliding it to partners when going down the Fente side.

This portage is as difficult as everyone else has said. Be careful on this one.

This one is a steep little surprise after hoofing it down the Frost. Steep up and over.

We named this one Humpty Dumpty. Tough little portage especially after 13 portages and over 20 beaver dams.

If you can't line through the creek, the portage from Fente into Afton begins at the bottom of a granite slope about 25 feet long. In retrospect, it would have been easier to hand packs up. I just put it on and climbed (part way on hands and knees to keep from going over backward). Happily, its a short portage.

This maybe short but don't let it fool you. You have to be part billy goat. There is a climb that you must pass your gear up about 20 feet. Maybe in low water you could walk the creek around but this wasn't an option on my trip
