One last portage to clear this boulder field. It was nice to see the woods close in on the river, but that also brough the boulders, so getting past this portage as we headed north, we were happy to see the valley widen back out a bit. The river was brushy for a while before giving way to the marshy shoreline that was most typical in this area. Lots of watery zigzagging - it kind of felt like I was on a BWCA treadmill where the scenery didn't really change for hours. I'm glad I did the route and experienced the rugged solitude (we saw 2 people over 5 days from Big Moose to LIS South, and about 18 trumpeter swans), but don't feel a need to come back either.

This is where the rugged character of the Little Indian began to shine. We pulled up to this portage next to a beautiful rapid set. The landings are narrow, almost like something one would find in a PMA. The trail is small and overgrown. And we didn't see a single human footprint for the entirety of the river from the Bootleg portage to Cummings. Nice route
