Arguably the most difficult portage in Sylvania and not just because of its length. (It is the longest lake to lake portage) It is narrow and brushy throughout with numerous small elevation changes. Going from Hay to Whitefish, you are rewarded with an extensive downhill finish after your first view of the lake. Very nice beach on this end as well. (Good place for a swim) Going from Whitefish to Hay, this initial uphill is not as daunting as one may think, but you do need to pay attention further along the way as it is possible to miss the cutoff to Hay when traveling in this direction, which is far less traveled than the Hiking Path you will be on.
