We had to skip the landing on Clark Lake for the Clark to Loon portage due to bees. I believe this may be a seasonal issue, but there were yellow jackets everywhere and my paddle partner is allergic. We instead took out at the landing to the east and took the hiking trail to the portage trail which added over double the distance but still beats a trip to the hospital. The landing on Clark did look nice though. There is a bit of a steeper incline on the Clark side of the hill and a more gradual incline on the Loon side. The landing on Loon is a beautiful sandy beach and is a great place to rest.

As another comment eluded to, there is a fairly steep incline out of Clark. But then it flattens out pretty fast and a gentle downhill to Loon. Loon to Clark is a cakewalk. The Clark side landing is in a little hidden cove within the trees, just be careful as I think the map has it farther to the right than where it actually is. Landing is fantastic though. On the Loon side, it is a great big sand beach.

Difficult portage, well used, but sharp elevation change. The 1st quarter coming from Clark is a killer but going from Loon to Clark isn’t quite as bad. The top is a very nice, long flat area through a field. Beautiful spot to rest awhile. Very nice beaches on either end gives you 3 great options here to take a break.

Sand beach landings at both ends and a wide, sandy path over the gentle hill.
