There was some new blowdown blocking the trail, but I cleared enough to make it passable. Surprisingly, the portion in the burn area was in better shape.

2023 Update: I travelled through this portage in 2023, going south to north. As expected, the south end was burned and required a few trees to be removed. No big trees down when I went through. The trail is still marked and easy to follow. Somebody (maybe Park crews?) made a wooden "bridge" across the creek midway along the portage. Made from down trees lashed together. Very different from the picture below. 2022 Update: The north half of this portage from the creek crossing to Mexican Hat Lake was not burned by the 2021 fire, and therefore only required the removal of a few down trees from the trail. The section south of the creek crossing was burned in 2021 leaving a forest of black standing dead trees. I took the time and found the old trail and marked it with orange flagging tape and rock cairns. This will be a mess in the years to come as the standing dead trees fall over. Be prepared with a handsaw.

This portage is OK (not great) on the north end from Mexican Hat Lake but quickly deteriorates towards Burnt Rock Lake. See photos.
