I had trouble finding this portage from the Talon side, so built a rock cairn marking it once I did. This whole north shore of Talon Lake re-burned in 2021 just as it was recovering from the 2016 fire. It burned everything and in places right down to rock, leaving only a few standing dead trees at both entrances of the portage. Otherwise pretty much a open field. The burn was so bad that the undergrowth is struggling to grow back, so there really is not a path of follow, more a general area. The area reminds of the arctic barrenlands. The only other area in the Park burned this bad is south of Murdock Lake. I marked it the best I could with orange flagging so hopefully a path will be worn in once the undergrowth grows back. The north entrance is also marked with a rock cairn. Here, I cleaned up the fallen burnt deadfall with a handsaw, but expect more to fall over in the next few years.
