This portage is fairly non-descript and well-used. There is poison ivy running along much of the trail to look out for. This seems to be the more popular route between the Paunesses than the southern route.

Been thru many times...Yes, I prefer this portage to the other shorter option. Simple up and down.

Single canoe landing on Upper side, more on Lower side. Other than a short climb, this is pretty quick, easy, and forgettable.

Landing on SW side is rocky, otherwise and easy portage. Lots of poison ivy along this trail.

Rocky landing on the Lower Pauness side. There are board walks through here to make the passage itself quite easy. Choose your portage based upon the weather. I found the concerns about the southern portage to be overstated in dry weather, but I wouldn't mess with it in the rain.

Heavily used easy portage. Avoid the short portage to the south and use this one

Word is that even though this is 5 times the distance, it is easier than the southern portage. Word is true. I prefer this portage to the slippery and steeper 8 rod. 1/5.

The landing on Lower Pauness is a bit rocky, but other than that, this is an easy portage - perhaps preferable to the steep 8 rod portage.
