It's a lovely little portage, climbs gently from Stuart and drops down steeply to an area below some falls and in the presence of many large red pines. Even and flat trail all the way. Watch out for a huge suspended tree over the trail that is low enough to catch your canoe and bump your head, as happened to me. It's worth it to come here just for the walk if you're camped on Stuart for the night. The Dahlgren River north of here has a few beaver dams, all of which can easily be lifted over. Same feel as the Stuart River further south, and probably the same water too.

Worth the walk even if you are staying on Stuart. This is perhaps the nicest portage path I've seen in the BWCA and it's a little surprising to find it in a rather remote location. Landings are good at either end, the footing is good along the way, and the trail passes through big red pines and near a nice falls on the Dahlgren end.

A beautiful portage through some old growth pines. Not one spot with enough moisture to leave a footprint, and follows the river with a couple small falls. Has a short steep drop at the end, right at a very pretty fall into the Dahlgren River. If you are in the area, don't miss this one!
