Spectacular cliffs in the middle of this portage! I could have spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery and solitude in the area.

As you travel through Rivalry toward LotC there are actually two completely separate openings that look like they could be portages. The first one that you come to has small trees placed across the opening in an obvious attempt to deter people from going that way. If you continue down the lake you will see a second opening that is the actual portage. The portage itself is a little rocky but scenic.

Portage was impassable. Trees setup blocking the entrance as a warning not to attempt. Ventured in without gear to verify. Eventually the trail became to overgrown it was difficult to tell which direction it was heading. Had to turn back and find a different route.

Rivalry is a shallow, dark lake. It is a bit difficult to find the entrance to the portage. It is midway across the lake on the south edge. Boggy entrance, but the middle is breathtaking. You will parallel a rocky cliff through the midsection. It is worth the time to stash your canoe and gear and explore the car-size boulders that have broken away from the cliff. Beautiful area! The exit into Lake of the Clouds is easy but narrow.

This portage was exceptionally pretty. The rock wall on the East side was amazing. Group was worn out from the previous two, but the portage isn't too bad. Landings are narrow, but that means peace and quiet.

Rocky and overgrown, but pretty level. Runs by the foot of a tall cliff.
