Nice rock slab on the Alpine side to stretch out for a minute. We used this portage to get to Seagull on a day where the winds were gusting out of the South. As such, the portage had a short climb, was a little narrow, but mostly was just a walk through the recovering woods.

This plus the portage into Rog lake make it a little shorter than the 105 rod portage to the north. Trail isn't heavily used but not difficult to cross. Saves some time paddling if heading west on Alpine

Rog end of portage had a lot of fresh bear skat and the grass next to the put-in was pretty well matted down. Floating on Rog and having some lunch, we spotted an adult black bear on the western shoreline about 40 feet up a rock. It moved on before we could get much closer.

This is the first portage I've ever commented on, but there was a patch of new birch trees on a portion of the portage that if one just looked up from the path and looked around, they'd see they just stepped into one of the most beautiful places in BWCA. Wished I set down the canoe and went back to get a picture. I find myself thinking about that view often. Other than that, nothing too steep. Just some tight corners for a Seneca canoe to work around.

This portage wasn't difficult. Very wide open since the fire, and Rog isn't much to see.

Second leg from Seagull to Alpine - actually though this was a fairly pretty portage as far as they go - lots of flowers blooming when we went thru there -

A large gently sloping rock landing on Alpine. Trail is flat & has a little potential to be mushy in a few spots. Nice landing on the Rog end.

Seagull landing is on a large bald rock. The portage path is wide open since the Cavity Lake fire.
