Tough, uneven shallow water landing on John lake. This trail is slyly deceptive when traveling to East Pike as there is no really steep climbs the entire way but, the gradual, unrelentingly climb definitely takes its toll. While there are a few minor mud holes and some boulders along the way but, its mostly an excellent path with a nice open spot near the crest which appears to be a popular resting area. Then after a short rolling (up & down) section the path drops steeply down to a brief boardwalk through some thimbleberries before eventually leveling off and widening out as you near East Pike. The landing on East Pike is a sloped granite shelf that will be slippery when wet. Just up from the landing is a huge staging area par excellance.

This is a steep, rugged portage up and over. The group was well-tired after this one!

From John to East Pike, it is pretty much all uphill. Prepare yourself accordingly!
