This is a fine portage except for the drop into Flying Lake there are good steps but almost too steep when carrying a canoe.

I never experienced the wood steps, but the stone steps are very nice.

The wooden stairs have been replaced by ones made of stone. Must have taken a major effort, but much, much improved.

Not too bad other than the flying landing. The water was up and the wind was cranking so unloading gear from the stairs proved difficult. Cool little portage between two pretty lakes though.

The staircase on the Flying Lake side is not ideal. We had a line of 5 canoes waiting at that portage for people to get up it. Otherwise an easy portage.

The stairway out of Flying is only nice if the water is low. In high water you will have to climb out directly onto the stairs and there was basically no staging area for gear.

There are at least 3 different landings on the Gotter end. Water levels will determine which one you will be able to use. There is a nice stairway coming up from Flying. Other than that it's a fairly non descript, weedy, trail.
