BWCA Portage 458 (Bootleg)

Coming from LIS to Bootleg, it can be tough to spot the landing in the tall grasses. Just watch for the boulders along the shoreline - that is the tell that makes this spot a bit different. The trail itself climbs almost all the way into Bootleg, which burned me up at the end of our long day from Cummings. It crosses a lot of rock slabs that are currently marked with small cairns - in this case, despite LNT ethics, I was glad for the assist.

We had a tough time spotting the landing for this one for some reason. Once we did, this trail can fade in and out at times before finishing in an open grassy area with a beautiful view of the river.

Extremely overgrown, hard to find. Needs TLC. Several large logs that are difficult to climb over or duck under (even without a canoe). Relatively easy footing otherwise. A good climb near the lake, flattish near the river. When wet, it might be mucky near the river and slippery rocks near the lake.
