Mud at the start AND end of this trail. My husband was not pleased to say the least. By the time we made it over twice, we both had mud all over our new boots.

The trail is pretty muddy and the boardwalks are welcome. The east landing is great but the west is more interesting. Beavers have built a big dam right in front of it so one must walk over rocks out onto the dam to put in. The structure is wide enough to do so and actually makes for a good landing. It would be tough if you had a big group however since there's not much room on the dam and the footing can be unsteady. In addition the 5-rod portage after this one is no longer needed, the tree blocking the river has been cleared for some time now. The water there is swift and the channel narrow, so watch out!

Fall season means low water and some portage landings can be a bit difficult to navigate. This was one of those. This route gets enough traffic though that the trail itself was reasonably wide. We snapped a picture of our poor, dilapidated Souris and carried on.

Muddy at both ends. Otherwise pretty straightforward. Easiest portage for this entry point (16) The impromptu portage after this due to downed tree is no longer needed. The tree has been cleared.

If this is the one I am thinking of, one of the first portages on the way in from EP16, it was SUPER muddy. There are boards down but don't step off of them. I went up to my knee and almost lost my shoe.

There is an extra 5 rod portage just before this one. The river in this section can get a little rocky.
