Snowshoed through here in the winter. Definitely didn't seem like a bad portage. It was definitely very scenic and I can only imagine it to be easier than the best on the opposite end of hook. Hook and Slim are also both beautiful lakes.

The landing on the Rice Lake end is easy - a shallow rock shelf that makes it easy to unload. The other end is a different matter - very narrow and rocky, impossible to do without wet-footing. The portage itself is average. It is a little steeper near the Hook Lake end. Also, when I got to the Hook Lake end, I half expected to see a fire grate - the open red pines look like it should be a campsite.
