Pretty steep little jaunt. Took it from Abinodji to Haven (not marked separate from Boot on the default PP map). Carrying the canoe down this thing wasn't the most pleasant, but we made it fine. I would imagine going uphill with a full load would be pretty damn tough. Only other notable but of this portage is that another portage from Haven to Boot exists, but isn't marked on the PP or Voyageur maps. It's about 3 rods and extremely easy.

Halfway through the portage, I was wondering if the marked distance on my map was wrong...was I that out of shape on this first trip of the season, or was this the hardest 73 rods of my life? A good climb coming from Boot...

First, as noted, there's a short 5 rod portage from Boot into Haven. We traveled this portage from Haven to Abinodji on the first day, coming from Snowbank. It's a climb out of Haven, but otherwise, on a cooler August day, it wasn't a bad little portage. Did it single portage, with a pack on my back and a Kevlar canoe over my head. I prefer this to the Boot/Ensign portage.

I was warned about this one by one of my guiding buddies ahead of time. Glad I came from the East! This portage is a bear coming from the West. My knees still feel like jelly though from the pounding they took coming down this thing. Tough portage, take your time!

First a quick note that there is also a short (2 rod) portage around a beaver dam at the narrows that lead to the back bay this portage is located on Boot. This is a very tough (for it's length) portage, especially coming from the Boot end, as there is a substantial climb for about 2/3 of the way. There is also a steep climb coming from Abinodji but, it is a significantly shorter length.

Hardest 73 rods in my life. I'm glad I didn't draw canoe short straw on this one. Traveled from Boot to Abinodji

Heard this before?... Toughest 75 rod portage I've ever done. Specifically coming from Boot into Abinodji Lake. Headed that way the first 40-50 rods are straight uphill, simply no fun at all. Might be easier headed west if you don't mind the downhill slope.

Pretty brutal 73 Rods. You'll be hard pressed to find a tougher portage of this length.

One of the hardest 75 rod portages you'll encounter. You need to be part billy goat to do this without feeling bushed when done.
